Staff Software Engineer, Order Handling and Ledger Team

Base Salary
$180k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own backend systems for order handling, ledger, and settlement flows.
- Partner with product to scope features, create implementation plans, and oversee cross-functional execution.
- Provide technical leadership by leading project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Conduct constructive code reviews covering design, quality, business correctness, stability, and performance.
- Define engineering-wide standards and guidance and advise colleagues on critical technical decisions.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues.
- Participate in on-call and treat production operability as a design requirement.
- Monitor the technology landscape and experiment with tools that improve existing solutions.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience as a technical lead and mentor.
- Deep backend engineering expertise, including idempotency, transactions, concurrency control, and reliable communication between services.
- Mastery of at least one programming language and framework, with the ability to become productive in unfamiliar technologies.
- Strong communication, structured thinking, prioritization, adaptability, attention to detail, and execution skills.
- Experience building relationships with technical teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Professional experience with Ruby or other parts of the stack, such as PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ, is preferred.
- Experience with ledgers, settlement, payments, banking, or another domain involving money movement and balancing is preferred.
