Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision, architecture, and expansion of backend systems powering Coalition Control.
  • Design and build distributed systems and cloud-based services in production.
  • Contribute in a full-stack capacity while providing deep backend expertise.
  • Design, implement, and maintain APIs and integrate with third-party APIs or platforms.
  • Raise standards for code, code reviews, testing, and reliability using AI-assisted workflows.
  • Guide engineers through architectural trade-offs, provide code reviews, and share knowledge across the team.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to shape scope and execute iterative plans.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a backend engineer designing and building distributed systems and cloud-based production services.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in influencing architecture, setting technical standards, and enabling other engineers.
  • Strong proficiency with AI workflows, Python/FastAPI, TypeScript/Node.js, or a similar modern backend language and framework.
  • Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining APIs and integrating third-party APIs or platforms.
  • Solid understanding of security concepts and practices; cybersecurity experience is a plus but not required.
  • React.js experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and a practical, outcome-oriented approach to problem solving.

  • Base salary ranges from $176,000 to $226,000 per year in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario, and from $158,400 to $208,400 per year in other locations.
