Base Salary
$119k - $231k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and architect large-scale production Ceph clusters, including CRUSH topology, failure domains, replication, erasure coding, hardware selection, and data placement.
- Lead capacity planning, performance modeling, and hardware qualification across more than 80 production clusters, 20,000+ OSDs, and 300 PB of raw storage.
- Own major Ceph releases, OpenStack integrations, migrations, and storage modernization initiatives through production execution.
- Resolve complex cross-functional production incidents involving storage, networking, virtualization, and compute systems.
- Establish automation, operational standards, and reliability practices that improve scalability, reduce toil, and increase engineering efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership, architectural direction, and mentorship to engineers working on Ceph design and operations.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience designing, operating, and scaling distributed storage platforms, including deep hands-on ownership of production Ceph environments.
- Expert knowledge of Ceph, including CRUSH maps, placement groups, OSD, MON, MGR, and MDS subsystems, RGW, CephFS, RBD, replication, and erasure coding.
- Experience with storage architecture, capacity planning, durability analysis, performance optimization, and failure-domain modeling at scale.
- Experience leading major storage platform upgrades, migrations, and modernization programs from planning through production execution.
- Strong automation and software engineering skills using Python and/or Go, with Infrastructure-as-Code and orchestration experience using tools such as Terraform, SaltStack, and Ansible.
- Preferred: advanced Ceph expertise including RGW Multisite, RBD Mirroring, CephFS at scale, BlueStore tuning, and erasure-coding optimization.
- Preferred: OpenStack storage architecture experience with Cinder, Swift, Manila, Nova, and Neutron integrations.
- Preferred: Kubernetes storage experience with CSI drivers, stateful workloads, StorageClasses, and Rook-based Ceph deployments.
- Preferred: experience with NetApp, Isilon, Pure, VAST, Weka, DDN, and AI/HPC storage platforms.
- Preferred: contributions to the Ceph community through upstream development, code reviews, bug fixes, architecture discussions, or open-source storage initiatives.
