Responsibilities
- Own technical vision and coordinate direction across multiple engineering teams.
- Contribute to annual and quarterly planning with product managers, engineering managers, and engineers.
- Design scalable, evolvable systems and translate business goals into pragmatic engineering approaches.
- Remain hands-on in one or two teams while mentoring engineers, unblocking delivery, and coordinating dependent teams.
- Build, deploy, monitor, test, and operate production services.
- Lead observability and reliability practices, including SLO definition, incident handling, and blameless post-mortems.
- Drive alignment across squads and broader engineering initiatives.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, and direct guidance.
- Use and support AI-augmented development workflows, including agentic coding and AI-assisted code review.
Requirements
- Proven experience coordinating significant multi-team technical initiatives and managing dependencies.
- Strong architectural judgment and ability to define technical roadmaps.
- Experience owning services throughout their production lifecycle.
- Experience in a complex domain, ideally flights or travel, or another domain involving constrained underlying systems and reliable customer-facing products.
- Backend depth with comfort working across the full stack; the role is approximately 80% backend and 20% frontend.
- Experience leading observability and reliability practices, defining SLOs, handling incidents, and conducting blameless post-mortems.
- A track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
- Experience with, or strong interest in, AI-augmented workflows such as agentic coding and AI-assisted code review.
- Ability to learn different tools quickly; experience with Python and AWS is relevant to the current stack.
