Base Salary
$220k - $265k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop firmware and LTE/5G cellular connectivity features across multiple hardware generations.
- Integrate proprietary cellular modem firmware and software stacks from chipset vendors into Zoox’s custom embedded Linux platform.
- Define and validate interfaces between RF-baseband, vendor protocol stacks, and the host system, including C/C++ Linux networking glue code.
- Prototype and evaluate next-generation wireless platforms.
- Develop telemetry and analytics systems for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing Zoox fleet data.
- Investigate and root-cause issues from QA teams and customers, distinguishing host-side defects from vendor firmware issues.
- Support test automation and collaborate with QA, manufacturing, software teams, and external vendors.
- Maintain Linux applications, kernel code, embedded services, and open-source package ports and patches in the Yocto Project environment.
Requirements
- More than 10 years of experience in embedded Linux systems and cellular or wireless stack software and firmware development.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Exceptional programming skills in C, C++, Linux, and Python or shell scripting.
- Deep architectural understanding of LTE/5G protocol stacks, including NAS, PDCP, RRC, RLC, MAC, and PHY, and 3GPP specifications.
- Experience integrating third-party cellular modems and proprietary stacks, including hands-on Qualcomm ecosystem experience and use of cellular network analysis tools.
- Experience with embedded systems, operating system concepts, computer architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience maintaining Linux applications, kernel code, embedded services, and open-source packages in Yocto Project environments.
- Strong understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP, IP routing, VLANs, firewalls, IPv4, and IPv6.
- Automotive industry experience is a bonus.
- Familiarity with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, BLE, UART, I2C, I2S, SPI, CAN, PCIe, network emulation tools, or wireless security protocols is a bonus.
