Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deploy, maintain, and optimize automation control systems for tunnel boring machines and related equipment.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs using structured text, particularly Beckhoff/TwinCAT systems.
  • Diagnose failures, conduct field inspections, and serve as the frontline authority for automation issues during tunneling operations.
  • Perform PLC maintenance and calibration and resolve system malfunctions.
  • Collaborate with headquarters and cross-functional mechanical, electrical, and field teams to integrate systems and develop solutions.
  • Create system specifications, operating procedures, and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Recommend improvements based on current automation technology and industry practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting industrial or manufacturing automation control systems.
  • Experience with PCBs, HMIs, electrical enclosures, and wire harnesses.
  • Proficiency in structured-text PLC programming; Beckhoff/TwinCAT experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Modbus, EtherCAT, and OPC-UA industrial automation protocols.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
  • Ability to conduct field inspections, diagnose issues, troubleshoot systems, and own root-cause resolution.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, attention-to-detail, and time-sensitive decision-making skills.
  • Experience with heavy machinery is a plus.
