Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and deploy Spring Boot microservices.
- Implement publish/subscribe messaging, event-driven flows, and distributed transactions using saga or orchestration patterns.
- Design and consume APIs, webhooks, and subscription APIs while contributing to API contracts and versioning.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code for AWS-hosted services.
- Diagnose and resolve distributed-service issues using logging, tracing, metrics, and observability tools.
- Integrate LLMs using function/tool calling, structured outputs, and the Model Context Protocol.
- Build agentic workflows and apply AI safety, governance, guardrails, and PII/PCI handling.
- Own code quality, technical health, architecture performance, and production delivery.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building backend services in Java.
- At least 2 years of experience with microservices and event-driven systems.
- Deep hands-on Java expertise, preferably Java 17+, with strong object-oriented programming and concurrency fundamentals.
- Production experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and AWS services including DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, KMS, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, Lambda, IAM, and RDS.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Copilot, including the ability to review AI-generated code critically.
- Experience with JUnit, Mockito, and integration testing.
- Must be located in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area and available for a contract engagement requiring 100% on-site work.
- Preferred experience includes financial services or payments, ISO 20022, FAIM, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, Temporal, Camunda, AWS Step Functions, vector stores, RAG, prompt engineering, and AI observability.
