Responsibilities
- Migrate Akamai configuration from manual Control Center changes to Terraform modules, version-controlled rule trees, and GitLab CI/CD workflows.
- Build self-service edge change paths with policy checks, automated validation, staging tests, and peer review.
- Develop Python and Bash tooling for Akamai APIs, bulk changes, certificate expiry checks, drift detection, and inventory reporting.
- Own Akamai property configuration, edge routing, DNS, origin selection, failover, load balancing, caching, redirects, and cache invalidation across staging and production.
- Support multi-CDN and disaster recovery strategies through Global Traffic Management and edge failover planning.
- Configure edge security controls including Site Shield, network lists, IP allow-listing, WAF, and bot mitigation.
- Manage SSL/TLS certificates and maintain inventories of properties, hostnames, certificates, and CP codes.
- Diagnose delivery, routing, and performance incidents using Edge Diagnostics, debug headers, mPulse, and reporting APIs.
- Partner with platform and application teams to translate delivery requirements into secure, performant, and maintainable edge configurations.
- Share Akamai and edge delivery expertise across the platform organization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in CDN and edge delivery engineering with deep hands-on Akamai expertise.
- Experience with Akamai Property Manager, Control Center, PAPI, property versioning, rule trees, and activation across staging and production.
- Hands-on experience with the Akamai Terraform Provider, reusable infrastructure-as-code modules, GitLab CI/CD, and Python or Bash scripting.
- Working knowledge of routing, DNS, Edge DNS, Global Traffic Management, edge hostnames, CP codes, origin behavior, failover, traffic steering, and multi-region routing.
- Experience designing host- and path-based redirects, rewrites, Cloudlet policies, Edge Redirector, Forward Rewrite, and Visitor Prioritization.
- Experience with Site Shield, network lists, WAF, bot mitigation, SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management, certificate chains, and SNI.
- Experience with Edge Diagnostics, debug headers, mPulse, traffic reporting APIs, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, routing, CDN, origin, and application-layer troubleshooting.
- Experience working with formal ITSM or change-control processes such as ServiceNow in regulated or high-availability environments.
- Akamai certification in Web Performance, Cloud Security, or Media Delivery is preferred.
- Experience with CloudFront, Cloudflare, Fastly, AWS networking services, edge compute, API Gateway, service mesh, Akamai DataStream, or PCI DSS is preferred.
