Base Salary
$195k - $365k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and train large-scale audio and speech models, including unified SpeechLLMs, ASR, expressive TTS, and generative audio systems.
- Design novel sequence-modeling architectures and optimize distributed training runs, GPU memory utilization, and system performance.
- Work across signal processing, acoustic representations, foundation-model training, inference, and edge-device optimization.
- Develop AI systems that understand and generate speech for Plaud’s hardware-software AI companion.
- Drive ambiguous research and engineering problems through production as an early member of the SpeechLLM lab.
Requirements
- Proven experience building and training large-scale audio or speech models from the ground up.
- Deep expertise with PyTorch or JAX and experience optimizing large-scale distributed training, GPU utilization, and performance bottlenecks.
- Ability to work across research and engineering, from signal processing and acoustic representations to foundation-model training and edge optimization.
- Strong candidates may have experience with text LLM pretraining, instruction tuning, RLHF, neural audio codecs, diffusion models, flow matching, autoregressive speech architectures, GRPO, inference optimization, vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, SGLang, FSDP, DeepSpeed, or Kubernetes.
- Ability to take ownership of ambiguous problems and deliver them into production in a fast-paced startup environment.
