Responsibilities
- Define and champion a 12–18 month platform technology strategy and roadmap.
- Author and approve RFCs while aligning cross-functional teams around shared technical objectives.
- Design privacy-compliant architectures for multi-region and multi-tenant environments.
- Establish API governance standards and control access, monitoring, detection, and response.
- Lead complex system design involving backward compatibility, phased migrations, data integrity, eventual consistency, caching, and global scale.
- Set SLOs and error budgets and lead capacity planning, performance optimization, incident management, root-cause analysis, and postmortems.
- Drive privacy, regulatory compliance, cost optimization, and operational standards.
- Contribute through high-impact code reviews and performance optimizations.
- Partner with PMs, TPMs, and Search, Data, Checkout, and other teams to deliver reusable platform components and standards.
- Mentor Senior and Staff engineers, lead design reviews, and raise engineering quality standards.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional backend development experience, excluding internships.
- 7+ years of Java, Kotlin, or Spring-based service development experience and 3+ years of architecture leadership.
- Experience designing and operating web-scale microservices with hands-on AWS and Kubernetes experience.
- Deep expertise diagnosing mission-critical system failures, identifying root causes, and implementing preventive measures.
- Strong communication and leadership skills for aligning stakeholders and driving complex technical decisions across organizations.
- Experience designing and operating AuthN and AuthZ infrastructure and services, including access control, monitoring, detection, and response.
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems handling global multi-region traffic.
- Hands-on experience with data pipelines and event processing using Kafka, Spark, Cassandra, and Airflow.
- Experience building observability frameworks using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Expertise in JVM performance tuning, large-scale cache and storage design, API schema versioning, and testing.
- Experience designing platforms, frameworks, or SDKs adopted across multiple product teams.
