Senior Software Engineer

- Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and modernize enterprise applications using COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and z/OS technologies.
- Analyze requirements and translate them into scalable, secure, maintainable technical designs.
- Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, code reviews, deployment, and production support.
- Design data mapping, integration, batch-processing, and application-interface solutions.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Work with CICS, VSAM, MQ, and other mainframe technologies as required.
- Investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and deliver durable resolutions.
- Support application modernization, migration, cloud integration, platform transformation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Define and manage CI/CD build, deployment, and release pipelines.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, analysts, business stakeholders, and project teams to meet GM standards and requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less-experienced team members and participate in on-call activities as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- At least 7 years of mainframe software-development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and z/OS.
- Experience with CICS, VSAM, batch processing, relational databases, data integration, SQL, enterprise application interfaces, and production support.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, application security, software design, maintainability, and code reuse.
- Experience with modern mainframe toolsets for discovery, profiling, and migration automation.
- Experience defining and managing CI/CD build, deployment, and release pipelines.
- Preferred experience with Java, containers, OpenShift Container Platform, Docker, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and mainframe-to-midrange application integration.
- Preferred familiarity with IBM Developer for z/OS Systems, ADO, Git, IBM DBB, ITOM, RACF, Connect-Direct, IBM Rational Functional Tester, IBM Optim, and ADDI.
- Preferred experience with packaged enterprise software such as SAP, Adobe, or SFDC and with large-scale supply chain, manufacturing, or vehicle order management systems.
- Technical leadership, mentoring, collaboration, troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and problem-solving capabilities are preferred.
