Responsibilities
- Define and own Trainline’s long-term iOS technical strategy in alignment with broader mobile, web, and platform architecture.
- Establish and evolve iOS engineering standards, reusable patterns, and best practices across the organization.
- Lead technical modernization programs that improve maintainability, scalability, consistency, and developer velocity.
- Partner with Principal Engineers, architects, and senior leaders to develop cohesive cross-platform technical direction.
- Champion modular, testable, maintainable, reliable, and high-performance software design.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and AI-enabled engineering practices while balancing value, security, cost, risk, and sustainability.
- Influence technical direction through proposals, communication, and collaboration with engineering, product, design, and executive stakeholders.
- Mentor senior engineers and members of the Principal Engineering community and contribute to broader engineering knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Significant experience defining technical strategy for large-scale iOS platforms or products and delivering lasting architectural improvements across multiple teams or organizations.
- Deep expertise in modern iOS development and software design focused on modularity, testability, maintainability, scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Experience establishing engineering standards, technical patterns, and best practices and influencing their adoption across an organization.
- Ability to align engineering disciplines and collaborate with architects, product, design, and technology leaders to deliver business outcomes.
- Strong judgment in evaluating emerging technologies, including AI-enabled engineering capabilities.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills across hands-on engineering and senior or executive audiences.
- Active participation in the wider iOS engineering community through speaking, mentoring, open-source contributions, or community engagement is preferred but not essential.
