Base Salary

$160k - $260k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design the financial architecture and system of record for municipal collections, refunds, and held funds.
  • Build an auditable and mathematically consistent ledger trusted by finance teams.
  • Create precise fee calculation capabilities.
  • Support partial payments, deposits, and refunds as first-class platform functions.
  • Own migration from the current payments system to the new system while serving real customers and handling real money.
  • Partner with finance teams, municipal staff, and engineers building related workflows.
  • Establish the technical standards and architecture for the payments domain.

Requirements

  • Experience designing financial or transactional systems such as payments, billing, or ledgers where correctness is critical.
  • Strong opinions and judgment about payments architecture, with comfort defining abstractions in an ambiguous domain.
  • Experience with idempotency, webhooks, and payment processor integrations such as Stripe or Finix is a strong plus.
  • Ability to reason about invariants and edge cases, including duplicate webhooks, changing fee schedules, and partial refund reversals.
  • Experience owning a large product area end-to-end and remaining accountable for something specific that was shipped.
  • Strong product instincts and ability to understand customer problems beyond ticket descriptions.
  • Interest in using current AI models in the product and development workflow.
  • Alignment with GovWell’s stated core values.
