Responsibilities
- Shape the long-term architecture for full-stack systems while balancing short-term functionality and long-term health.
- Translate business goals into engineering projects and own the technical roadmap from conception through delivery.
- Manage cross-team dependencies, mitigate risks, and resolve organizational bottlenecks.
- Improve system observability, performance, and technical debt.
- Establish deployment, alerting, and on-call best practices and improve platform stability.
- Collaborate with product, design, operations, engineering, data science, and analytics.
- Mentor engineers, delegate stretch opportunities, lead cross-team reviews, and foster technical excellence.
- Conduct high-bar interviews and participate in Lyft’s internal engineering community.
Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering industry experience.
- Experience with object-oriented programming, distributed systems, and databases.
- Ability to write clear, scalable design documentation that considers technical and business tradeoffs.
- Ability to design, build, and improve team-owned components while influencing teammates’ design decisions.
- Experience delegating work to other engineers and providing guidance for success.
- Ability to improve teams through mentorship, teaching, process improvements, and creating guidance.
