Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction and end-to-end design of digital products.
- Design and develop scalable backend and cloud-native applications from proof of concept through production.
- Define architecture across application, integration, data, search, and cloud layers.
- Design integration patterns, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, and data-intensive solutions.
- Develop platform-focused proofs of concept and infrastructure solutions, including Kafka plugins and AWS MSK.
- Establish observability, security, quality, and relevant engineering practices.
- Collaborate with researchers, product managers, data engineers, software engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Improve and extend existing digital products, including integration of new data sources.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical direction and architecture leadership for complex digital products.
- Strong experience designing end-to-end architectures across applications, integration, data, search, and cloud layers.
- Strong backend development experience with Python, API design, distributed systems, and service-oriented architectures.
- Experience with integration patterns, event-driven architectures, data-intensive systems, Apache Kafka, Kafka plugins, or managed Kafka services such as Amazon MSK.
- Strong experience with AWS services and cloud-native technologies, including containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, IAM, monitoring, and security.
- Experience designing automated testing strategies and implementing secure software development practices.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts and influence technical and business decisions.
- Preferred experience with Amazon QuickSight or similar dashboarding tools, OpenSearch, vector databases, graph databases, React, Vue.js, Angular, LLM-powered applications, AI agents, RAG solutions, or intelligent workflow systems.
- Experience in scientific, pharmaceutical, research, or other regulated industries is preferred.
