Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
- Develop and maintain shared architecture and services for Capital One Travel products.
- Provide technical leadership across Agile teams and establish standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks with architects.
- Refactor systems, reduce technical debt, and improve performance in distributed systems.
- Evaluate emerging tools and practices to influence long-term technology strategy.
- Mentor engineers and build consensus with product engineering teams and other stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- Significant experience architecting large-scale distributed systems and strong Scala or functional Java expertise.
- Preferred experience includes 7+ years coding with multiple listed programming languages, database systems, cloud platforms, open-source frameworks, front-end frameworks, APIs, automated testing, version control, and cloud troubleshooting.
- Preferred qualifications include experience mentoring engineers, using observability to optimize distributed-system performance, leading cross-functional engineering efforts, and enforcing coding standards and design patterns.
- Experience with modern AI-based coding tools, IDE copilots, and interactive AI tooling is preferred.

- The posted full-time annual salary ranges vary by location: McLean, VA, $197,300–$225,100; New York, NY, $215,200–$245,600.
