Responsibilities
- Set the technical roadmap and lead delivery of state-of-the-art machine learning systems for autonomous driving.
- Lead development of autonomy algorithms and foundation models that extract semantic meaning from complex urban edge cases.
- Design and oversee large-scale ML systems integrating upstream sensor data.
- Define requirements for high-quality datasets and auto-labeling systems.
- Mentor senior and lead engineers and promote rigorous experimentation and engineering excellence.
- Influence the technical direction of multiple engineering teams.
- Coordinate between AV Labs and other Uber engineering units to integrate and deploy autonomous technology at scale.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional experience in machine learning, robotics, or autonomous systems.
- Proven experience leading large-scale technical projects from conception through production.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and Linux environments.
- Deep expertise with modern AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
- Preferred: PhD in Computer Vision, Robotics, or Machine Learning focused on autonomous driving.
- Preferred: extensive experience with C++, CUDA, and high-performance system optimization.
- Preferred: deep understanding of ROS or similar autonomous middleware.
- Preferred: recognized expertise demonstrated through publications in CVPR, NeurIPS, or ICRA, or patents related to autonomous vehicles.
- Preferred: experience building and scaling foundation models for physical-world interaction.
