Base Salary
$190k - $322k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define the virtualization safety architecture for mixed-criticality systems with spatial and temporal isolation.
- Prototype and evaluate Xen and QNX hypervisors and recommend an architecture based on safety, determinism, certifiability, and platform fit.
- Own hypervisor configuration and integration, including solutions for platform limitations and vendor-support gaps.
- Architect and implement deterministic inter-VM communication and device virtualization using virtio, shared memory, and PCIe or other device passthrough.
- Plan and execute analysis and verification for freedom from interference, deterministic timing, and safe failure behavior.
- Lead failure modes and effects analysis and translate findings into mitigations, fault containment, and recovery or degraded behaviors.
- Build observability for guest and hypervisor health, resource utilization, latency, jitter, and related platform signals.
- Lead strategic technical initiatives, contribute to cross-functional projects, mentor engineers, and provide technical direction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 12 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 8 years with a master's degree, or 5 years with a PhD.
- Expertise designing scalable, high-performance embedded software architectures and advanced proficiency in modern C++ and Python for real-time systems.
- Experience taking technical prototypes from concept through evaluation on target hardware.
- Extensive experience with Linux and QNX, including kernel modules, resource managers, POSIX applications, and distributed inter-processor communication frameworks.
- Expertise with FPGAs, hardware accelerators, PCIe transport/configuration/enumeration, and network stacks.
- Ability to lead strategic initiatives independently, communicate complex technical concepts, influence senior leadership, and mentor engineers.
- Preferred experience with Xen internals or upstream hypervisor contributions; functional safety and regulatory standards; Ethernet, OSI layers, and Time Sensitive Networking; and Bazel, Nix, Jenkins, and Python automation, analysis, and testing.
