Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering project teams.
- Set technical direction for large projects or teams and contribute to organization-wide technical problem solving.
- Design, develop, maintain, and evolve scalable backend software and system architectures.
- Optimize systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Identify current and future product and system problems and develop plans to address them.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, developers, executives, and other stakeholders on architectural decisions.
- Define system boundaries, design systems, and groom one or more subsystems.
- Improve code quality through reviews, optimization, documentation, and software engineering best practices.
- Design, monitor, and maintain large-scale, high-availability software systems.
Requirements
- 10+ years of relevant backend engineering experience, including substantial SaaS or cloud-based application experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading or playing key roles in significant software projects.
- Experience developing, monitoring, and maintaining large-scale, high-availability software systems.
- Experience designing and developing software from a security perspective.
- Knowledge and mastery of microservices architecture, including decentralized data management, service discovery, bounded contexts, performance optimization, security, and scalability.
- Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes for creating, deploying, and managing containers.
- Knowledge of system architecture, design patterns, and software development best practices.
- Experience designing and operating software on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Expertise with relational and non-relational data stores, including Elasticsearch, Cassandra, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Proficiency with Java/Kotlin, Python, and C# and the ability to deliver tested, maintainable code.
- Familiarity with server management, network configurations, cloud services, and the software development lifecycle.
- Experience selecting and extending third-party components is preferred.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies, feature or release toggles, observability systems, RESTful APIs, gRPC, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI is preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
