Base Salary
$102k - $219k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Microsoft’s custom Linux OS platform for reliability, performance, and security at hyperscale.
- Monitor and troubleshoot OS health, performance, and deployment issues across the machine fleet.
- Submit and review code changes for operating system components.
- Integrate next-generation Linux OS technologies and enable new datacenter hardware.
- Collaborate with open-source communities to develop required features.
- Build expertise in Linux internals, system software, and cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 2+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, Rust, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
- At least 1 year of experience in Linux systems programming.
- At least 1 year of experience with systemd, portable services, and/or container runtimes.
- At least 1 year of experience contributing to open-source projects, especially in the Linux ecosystem, with debugging skills using tools such as strace, perf, or gdb.
- At least 1 year of experience with large-scale distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or hyperscale datacenter environments.
