
Staff Software Engineer I, Mobile

Responsibilities
- Own team architecture, provide system-wide design guidance, decompose architectures into components, and make tradeoffs across competing requirements.
- Design efficient, stable, extensible systems with strategic vision, non-functional requirements awareness, and future product flexibility.
- Use AI to validate architectural patterns and decisions and design AI-augmented workflows such as code generation and incident analysis.
- Establish team guardrails for secure, compliant, correct, and responsible AI usage.
- Drive engineering best practices, eliminate technical debt, and prepare the codebase for future roadmap requirements.
- Influence and execute large cross-team projects while anticipating and removing delivery barriers.
- Partner with design on a mobile design system and UX heuristics.
- Own mobile CI/CD, the app release process, and SDK/framework upgrades.
- Create strategies and objectives from organizational vision, resolve ambiguity, and build shared understanding.
- Share architectural improvements across the technology organization and build broad implementation buy-in.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to balance short- and long-term needs.
- Mentor and develop engineers across the organization and empower them to achieve ambitious goals.
- Handle escalations, lead high-stakes investigations, and drive systemic improvements to operational reliability.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience as a software engineer.
- At least 5 years of cumulative experience or exposure developing mobile applications with Flutter and Dart and React Native with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience using AI for architectural validation, designing AI-augmented engineering workflows, and establishing quality and safety guardrails for AI-assisted work.
- A proactive and collaborative leadership style.
- A track record of technical leadership and creating clarity from ambiguity.
- Ability to work hybrid in San Francisco 2–3 days per week, or relocate independently within 90 days; occasional team-onsite travel is required.
