Responsibilities
- Own, design, and evolve the build system for a large software product with interdependent components written in multiple programming languages.
- Build and maintain isolated, reproducible build pipelines, including dependency management, build agents, build farms, artifact repositories, and caching.
- Assemble, validate, sign, promote, publish, and roll back release packages, images, installation artifacts, and repositories across multiple release lines.
- Maintain buildability through compiler, library, toolchain, and dependency upgrades while keeping build definitions and patches maintainable.
- Maintain artifact traceability, versioning, changelogs, provenance, license data, SBOM data, and integrations with security scanning and audit processes.
- Automate build tooling, release procedures, and build-environment provisioning using Python and shell.
- Support developers and QA with self-service builds, failure diagnosis, and resolution of build and packaging issues.
- Extend CI/CD coverage with commit validation, artifact promotion, and automated test suites integrated into release gating.
- Own build infrastructure including build hosts, builder images, artifact storage, and capacity planning.
- Investigate intermittent build failures through root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
- Document build and release processes and communicate status, risks, dependencies, and critical issues to development leadership.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in build, release, or DevOps engineering for complex software products, including ownership of a complete build system.
- Strong CI/CD engineering experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or comparable systems, including pipelines as code, build agents, and artifact repositories.
- Experience packaging and distributing binary artifacts on Linux, including artifact signing and repository or channel management.
- Ability to read, fix, and take over build definitions across multiple languages and tools, including make, CMake, autotools, and language-native build and packaging tools.
- Deep understanding of dependency and version management, reproducible and hermetic builds, incremental builds, and build caching.
- Strong Python and shell scripting skills for build tooling and release automation.
- Strong Linux systems knowledge and experience with containers and configuration management tooling.
- Confident use of Git and branching and release models supporting multiple concurrent releases.
- Experience with software updates, release channels, staged rollouts, acceptance, and rollback is advantageous.
- Familiarity with software supply-chain practices including signing, SBOMs, dependency scanning, and vulnerability scanning.
- Experience scaling build systems through parallelism and distributed builds and reducing build times is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, collaboration, and technical knowledge-sharing skills.
- Mandatory practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools for development, debugging, log analysis, investigation, and technical research.
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Resume and application must be submitted in English.
