Responsibilities
- Own and evolve asynchronous data services that synchronize data across Box systems and data stores.
- Design and implement services and improvements for growing data volumes and evolving platform requirements.
- Improve the reliability, scalability, observability, performance, and architecture of existing production services.
- Ensure data consistency and reliability across distributed systems, data stores, and downstream services.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and consolidate the data platform.
- Collaborate with Core Data and other Box engineering teams on requirements, dependencies, and technical challenges.
- Participate in production operations, troubleshooting, reliability improvements, and an on-call rotation.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience, ideally with distributed systems and data-intensive applications.
- Strong proficiency in Java or Scala and experience building production backend services.
- Experience designing, building, and deploying highly available, scalable, and reliable distributed systems.
- Experience with asynchronous systems, data processing, messaging, or event-driven architectures.
- Strong understanding of data consistency, synchronization, and reliability across distributed systems and data stores.
- Experience owning production services, including troubleshooting, performance improvement, observability, and reliability work.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficient English communication skills.
