Base Salary
$140k - $265k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of Fable’s recommendation system onto Orion while keeping the existing system operational.
- Extend Orion’s rankers, feature store, and embedding-based retrieval capabilities for Fable.
- Own production recommendation-system quality, latency, cost, and on-call operations.
- Incorporate Fable social signals, including shelves, ratings, reviews, book clubs, and reader similarity, into recommendations for Fable and Everand.
- Design and analyze online A/B experiments with product managers and analysts.
- Serve as technical lead for Premium recommendations, shaping the roadmap and delivering work that depends on other teams.
- Improve engineering practices through design reviews, code quality, and operational readiness.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience as an ML or software engineer, with a record of shipping production ML systems.
- Hands-on experience building and operating production recommender systems, including collaborative filtering, matrix factorization, two-tower or embedding retrieval, or learned ranking.
- Experience with large-scale data processing using Spark, Databricks, BigQuery, or similar tools.
- Experience with AWS or GCP, including deploying services in Kubernetes, ECS, or similar container environments.
- Experience designing and analyzing online experiments.
- Experience leading projects involving other teams and working directly with product managers.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, or equivalent professional experience.
- Preferred experience with Google Cloud, Vertex AI, BigQuery, production ML-system migrations, social or graph-based recommendations, search and semantic retrieval, vector databases, and consumer reading, media, or social applications.
