Base Salary
$160k - $295k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build backend systems for applications, underwriting, accounts, ledgers, transactions, payments, rewards, risk, and partner APIs.
- Take projects from ambiguity through scoping, design, implementation, testing, rollout, and ongoing operations.
- Work across domains and services to address the highest-value problems.
- Partner with product, risk, compliance, operations, vendors, and external partners to deliver systems for a regulated environment.
- Improve system reliability, observability, and developer experience.
- Build and operate production backend services that move real money and make credit decisions.
Requirements
- Strong systems thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to reason about unfamiliar systems and make sound decisions with incomplete information.
- Experience building and operating production backend services and shipping projects end to end.
- Solid fundamentals in distributed systems, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
- Proficiency in a modern backend language and ecosystem; Cardless primarily uses Java with Python for data work.
- Clear communication and strong attention to correctness.
- Fintech, payments, lending, card issuing, authorization, ledgers, settlement, reconciliation, disputes, or regulatory experience is preferred.
- Experience with Temporal, Step Functions, event streaming, or external partner-facing APIs is preferred.
