Base Salary
$162k - $199k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead design and delivery of complex team-level projects across Metadata services
- Design and develop new subsystem architectures and own team-level subsystems end to end
- Review and approve technical designs and identify deficiencies before release
- Drive technical initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history
- Establish and uphold design, architecture, coding, and documentation standards
- Coach and mentor engineers and improve code quality through reviews
- Optimize critical code, follow through on incidents, and advance service reliability and performance
- Participate periodically in the on-call rotation
- Use AI tooling and agents across development and software development lifecycle artifacts
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience leading complex, team-scope technical work to completion
- Deep expertise designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems
- Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives
- Strong design and architecture judgment with the ability to identify flaws and evaluate trade-offs
- Proficiency in a modern backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker and Kubernetes; and development infrastructure
- Experience with test strategy, incidents, post-mortems, reliability, and performance
- Fluent use of AI code assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT
- Preferred experience with ETL or ELT, cloud-based data platforms, metadata, catalog, lineage, discovery or search systems, GraphQL APIs, high-throughput multi-tenant data services, and the dbt ecosystem
