Responsibilities
- Build, deploy, and ensure the availability of database infrastructure operating 24/7/365.
- Use software development and automation to design, modernize, and deliver database infrastructure.
- Help set architectural direction for database platforms and projects.
- Analyze, design, and deploy fault-tolerant, distributed, and highly available database infrastructure.
- Plan and implement infrastructure changes through capacity forecasting, software release cycles, and right-sizing.
- Provide database performance tuning, troubleshooting, administration, and technical expertise.
- Develop engineering and administration standards and create automation and tooling for operational efficiency, reliability, and security.
- Build scalable, resilient, available, and recoverable infrastructure using infrastructure as code and configuration management.
- Provide database infrastructure insights through metrics, monitoring, and alerting.
- Maintain thorough technical documentation and participate in live-event support and on-call rotations.
- Build relationships with engineering teams and leads and potentially provide oversight to junior team members.
Requirements
- 5+ years of related work experience with relational database systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon RDS, and Amazon RDS Aurora.
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience.
- Fundamental understanding of database internals for at least one relevant database engine.
- Experience with Agile software development and source control tools including Git, GitLab, or GitHub.
- Intermediate to advanced expertise in one or more of Python, Java, or Go.
- Experience running, deploying, and maintaining production cloud infrastructure in Amazon Web Services.
- General understanding and experience with Linux, networking, and containers.
- Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience designing and deploying fault-tolerant, distributed, and highly available database infrastructure.
- Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Ability to carry out assignments with little coaching or guidance.
- Preferred: experience in database reliability engineering or site reliability engineering.
- Preferred: experience with production lifecycles, testing, integration, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Preferred: experience with production cloud infrastructure in Azure and GCP.
- Preferred: experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or Chef.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
