Account Backend Engineer

Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot NCBI Login and MyNCBI backend systems, including patching, session issues, account linking, and production stability.
- Build, deploy, and maintain backend binaries and CGI scripts across AlmaLinux and Unix/Linux environments.
- Develop and optimize backend services using C++, Python, Django, and SQL.
- Integrate third-party identity providers and manage federated account data feeds.
- Apply authentication, authorization, security, and compliance practices including SAML, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and JWT.
- Lead and participate in migration from legacy authentication systems to NIH ICAM standards, including account linking, merging, and credential retirement.
- Manage code and configuration repositories, build pipelines, deployment processes, OS upgrades, and library dependencies.
- Monitor user issues and collaborate with partner agencies to resolve them.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Strong proficiency in C++, Python, SQL, and Linux environments.
- Experience with OAuth, OIDC, SAML, JWT, Microsoft SQL Server, relational database design, and database optimization.
- Experience with Git, SVN, CI/CD tools, DevOps practices, third-party integrations, and secured data sharing.
- Experience working with XML and XSLT.
- Ability to work with legacy systems and support migration to modern platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting, teamwork, communication, and independent-working skills.
- Experience with agile development processes.
