Responsibilities
- Build and maintain complex SQL transformations and production dbt models, including incremental models, snapshots, seeds, sources, and materializations.
- Develop and maintain Jinja macros, dbt tests, documentation, data lineage, and dbt package integrations.
- Work with at least one cloud data platform: Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift.
- Use Claude Code and/or GitHub Copilot for implementation, refactoring, test generation, and code review.
- Establish team standards for prompting, verification of generated code, security and IP guardrails, and review of AI-authored changes.
- Integrate AI into developer workflows through MCP servers, AI-driven CI steps, code generation, and documentation-generation pipelines.
- Evaluate AI tooling using measurable productivity and quality impact.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or related fields.
- 3+ years of hands-on production experience with dbt.
- Strong SQL expertise and experience developing complex data transformations.
- Strong understanding of dbt Core and/or dbt Cloud and experience with dbt models and materializations.
- Experience with incremental models, Jinja macros, dbt tests, data quality frameworks, snapshots, seeds, sources, documentation, data lineage, and dbt packages.
- Strong experience with at least one of Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift.
- Daily fluent use of Claude Code and/or GitHub Copilot for engineering tasks.
- Working understanding of LLM fundamentals, including context windows, tokens, model selection, and prompt/context engineering.
- Experience integrating AI into developer workflows and agentic or automation tooling.
- Ability to pragmatically evaluate AI tooling based on productivity and quality outcomes.
