Responsibilities
- Build researcher productivity tools for experiment tracking, literature research automation, computational environment management, and research workflow integration.
- Develop GTM and business operations automation for CRM systems, pipeline management, proposal generation, contract tracking, and customer communication workflows.
- Create analytics and measurement infrastructure for research progress, operational metrics, resource utilization, and strategic objectives.
- Automate recruiting, marketing, and cross-functional workflows that require manual coordination.
- Build internal APIs and integrations connecting Notion, Linear, email, calendars, and Slack.
- Implement AI- and LLM-powered tools using language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent orchestration.
- Translate research ideas into correct, robust, scalable code and contribute to performance engineering and scaling research code.
- Contribute to Basis’s technical culture and direction through high-quality internal tools and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Excellent programming and software engineering skills, especially in Julia, Python, C++, and ML-family languages.
- Demonstrated ability to drive software projects from start to finish.
- Ability to digest research from programming languages and machine learning venues such as PLDI, POPL, NeurIPS, or ICML, and work autonomously under uncertainty.
- Experience using LLMs for automation, including the OpenAI API, Anthropic Claude, and LangChain.
- Significant technical achievements in ML engineering, such as implementing newly published techniques, building distributed large-model training systems, or working across the programming stack.
- Understanding of research and operational workflows sufficient to identify high-impact automation opportunities.
- User-centric internal-tool design skills, including seeking feedback, iterating from real usage, and measuring adoption and time saved.
