Base Salary
$170k - $215k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end functional testing for Platform services across API, event, and database layers.
- Design and validate service contracts and identify breaking changes before they affect downstream teams.
- Build and maintain Java test automation using REST Assured and Postman, with Playwright or Selenium where applicable.
- Write SQL and perform data validation across APIs, event streams, and persisted state.
- Test asynchronous and event-driven workflows, including retries, idempotency, ordering, and failure recovery.
- Verify security fixes and authentication and authorization paths.
- Detect configuration drift and assess the blast radius and regression scope of Platform changes.
- Integrate automated test suites into GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Partner with Platform engineers to build testability into services from the design stage.
- Manage test cases and defects in Jira and support efficient agile workflows.
- Use Claude and Cursor to accelerate test development, test-data generation, defect triage, and reporting.
- Champion continuous improvement across the testing function.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a QA Engineer or Software Test Engineer, ideally in B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS.
- Strong hands-on experience testing backend services and APIs, including exploratory and contract-level testing.
- Experience testing microservices and distributed systems across service boundaries.
- Experience building, maintaining, and executing test plans with cross-functional teams.
- Experience working in agile environments with regular release cadences and maintaining automated regression coverage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Proficiency with SQL and direct database validation, plus proficiency with Java or another object-oriented language.
- Hands-on experience building API automation with REST Assured and Postman.
- Ability to learn and work with backend technologies such as Spring Boot, Postgres, Kubernetes, Kafka, Temporal, and Snowflake.
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, with GitLab experience preferred.
- Familiarity with PII-focused data encryption methodologies, Kafka, Debezium, Temporal, and OpenTelemetry.
- Performance or load testing experience, feature-flag testing experience, or experience testing AI-powered applications is a plus.
- Knowledge of brokerage platforms and financial services, including margin, options, account types, and trade lifecycle, is a plus.
- Strong ownership, communication, judgment, resilience, and creative problem-solving skills.
