Niantic Spatial8 hours ago
Responsibilities
- Build native mobile features and shared C++ runtime and SDK capabilities using Swift, Kotlin, and C++.
- Turn spatial-computing, localization, and computer-vision research prototypes into production-quality SDK features and mobile experiences.
- Develop and refine native iOS and Android applications that exercise new platform capabilities and solve user problems.
- Use AI-assisted development workflows across multiple native platforms while maintaining platform-specific quality.
- Debug across shared runtime code, native bindings, application logic, user interfaces, device sensors, and real-world usage.
- Write automated tests, improve build and release tooling, investigate performance, and validate capabilities through on-device testing and sensor playback.
- Collaborate with research, platform, design, and application engineers to shape stable, ergonomic APIs and user experiences.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated software development experience in C++, Swift, Kotlin, or another native or systems language through coursework, personal projects, research, or internships.
- Strong interest in native mobile development, SDKs, libraries, and developer-facing platforms, including performance, API design, and platform-specific behavior.
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems independently, debug across platform boundaries, and create maintainable solutions to ambiguous technical problems.
- Strong engineering judgment around testing, code quality, API ergonomics, maintainability, and balancing shared abstractions with native conventions.
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools across iOS, Android, and shared C++ code.
- Available to work four days per week in the San Francisco office for the full 12-week internship.
- Preferred experience includes iOS development with Xcode or Instruments, Android development with Android Studio or Android NDK, spatial computing, augmented reality, computer vision, localization, SLAM, VPS, CMake, Bazel, SDK or library development, open-source contributions, or developer-facing APIs.
Benefits
- Expected compensation is $48–$70 per hour.
- Housing assistance and relocation support are available for candidates outside the Bay Area.
- The internship lasts 12 weeks and requires on-site work in the San Francisco office at least four days per week.
- Lunch is provided daily and snacks are stocked in the office.
About Niantic Spatial
Niantic Spatial builds computer‑vision and spatial computing software that maps real‑world environments and localizes people and machines within them. The company offers a platform with APIs and SDKs for creating AI‑native digital twins, visual positioning, and spatial question‑answering, serving robotics, AR/VR, defense, and industrial operations. Privately held, it sells its technology to enterprises that need precise, geometrically accurate understanding of physical spaces beyond GPS or screen‑bound systems.
