Responsibilities
- Design and implement routing, traffic-management, and load-balancing capabilities for Microsoft 365 workloads, including Copilot.
- Optimize traffic distribution based on service health and available capacity.
- Build distributed, highly available, and resilient systems operating across thousands of servers and handling tens of billions of transactions.
- Improve performance, resilience, service availability, and resource utilization across Microsoft 365 infrastructure.
- Drive technical excellence through architecture design and code reviews.
- Collaborate across teams and organizational boundaries to deliver features end to end.
- Pass the required Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- Experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; preferred qualifications also include Rust.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and 8+ years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience.
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
- Experience developing, testing, and debugging backend services or distributed systems.
- At least 3 years of industry experience in service development and successfully shipping services through multiple releases.
- Experience with large-scale online services, performance, resiliency, telemetry, and security.
- Understanding of distributed systems, with networking, traffic management, or load-balancing experience preferred.
- Familiarity with AI/ML-driven decision systems and DNS architecture, resolution, troubleshooting, DNS-based traffic management, and load balancing preferred.
- Ability to diagnose software issues and deliver reliable, maintainable solutions.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, customer focus, and software quality orientation.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
