Base Salary
$130k - $180k/yr
Responsibilities
- Serve as the hands-on subject-matter expert for Datadog, CloudWatch, OpenSearch, log pipelines, tracing standards, telemetry, and platform templates.
- Create and maintain golden paths for logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerting, and service onboarding.
- Establish SLIs and SLOs, improve signal quality, reduce alert noise, and support incident detection, triage, runbooks, and MTTR reduction.
- Partner with delivery, Security, and Data teams to implement instrumentation, reliability guardrails, auditability, and durable incident fixes.
- Integrate observability checks into CI/CD and platform workflows and provide reusable monitoring and dashboard templates.
- Define observability KPIs, run experiments to improve monitors and dashboards, and report onboarding, alerting, and reliability trends.
- Develop cost-aware telemetry standards covering log volume, metric cardinality, sampling, retention, and telemetry spend.
- Mentor engineers and improve organizational practices for incident response, reliability signals, and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on AWS experience operating production workloads.
- Deep practical production observability experience with Datadog and/or CloudWatch, including dashboards, monitors, alerts, log search, and correlation.
- Experience designing actionable alerts, defining and using SLIs/SLOs, and applying reliability metrics.
- Strong proficiency with Terraform; CloudFormation is a plus.
- Strong programming ability in Python, Go, or a similar language for automation and tooling.
- Understanding of cloud architecture, networking, and security fundamentals.
- Preferred experience productizing observability enablement through templates, golden paths, standards, and onboarding workflows.
- Preferred experience with GitLab pipelines, ELK/OpenSearch, ECS/EKS, RDS/Aurora, S3, MSK/Kinesis, and FinOps for observability.
- Relevant AWS certifications and excellent communication skills are preferred.
