Senior Data Platform Engineer
SS&C TechnologiesResponsibilities
- Design, build, and operate reusable batch and streaming platform capabilities on Airflow, Spark, and Flink.
- Own the Iceberg and Nessie lakehouse layer, including catalog governance, query performance, storage lifecycle, compaction, partitioning, and retention.
- Build and maintain Kafka streaming infrastructure, ingestion and data harmonization frameworks, and platform-facing UI components.
- Develop governed APIs and MCP servers that expose platform data, catalogs, lineage, orchestration, and operational capabilities to teams and AI agents.
- Build guardrails and human-in-the-loop controls for AI agents operating platform functions.
- Improve scalability, performance, resilience, disaster recovery, data consistency, observability, incident response, and on-call practices.
- Establish testing, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, code review, and architecture standards while mentoring engineers and championing agentic development practices.
Requirements
- 8–12 years of software or data engineering experience, including significant hands-on work building or operating large-scale data platform infrastructure.
- Deep hands-on experience with several of Apache Airflow, Apache Iceberg, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, Nessie, Trino, and StarRocks.
- Strong understanding of lakehouse architecture, table formats, catalog management, query engines, and batch-versus-streaming trade-offs.
- Experience designing and building governed, versioned, secure APIs for multi-tenant platform consumers.
- Direct experience with or strong aptitude for building MCP servers or similar agent-facing interfaces for AI agents and LLM-based tools.
- Practical experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot as a core development workflow.
- Strong distributed-systems, performance-tuning, capacity-planning, fault-tolerance, resilience, and production-observability experience.
- Ability to work as an individual contributor with deep technical ownership while mentoring and influencing without formal authority.
- Preferred qualifications include internal developer platform or paved-road tooling experience, agent orchestration and guardrails experience, UI/front-end familiarity, regulated-industry experience, and open-source contributions in the Airflow, Iceberg, Spark, Flink, or Trino ecosystem.
