Base Salary
$225k - $305k/yr
Responsibilities
- Serve as senior technical authority for the Lab Notebook and Enterprise Lifecycle teams and drive development of their core systems.
- Architect and implement complex solutions spanning system architecture, backend models, APIs, and rich frontend UI.
- Lead large, multi-quarter initiatives from ambiguous requirements through scalable and reliable delivery.
- Make strategic technical decisions regarding platform reuse, technical debt, and long-term optionality.
- Set engineering direction, raise quality and architecture standards, and influence technical choices across the Applications division.
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship.
- Partner with product management, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate customer and regulatory needs into technical solutions.
- Evaluate AI and LLM opportunities for data capture, audit reporting, and compliance workflows.
- Collaborate across teams to integrate horizontal systems and enable broader product development.
- Own critical features end to end through planning, development, deployment, maintenance, and monitoring, while helping scale tooling, processes, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with increasing scope and impact.
- Experience serving as a technical lead on significant, multi-quarter projects involving multiple engineers.
- Strong experience building backend systems and APIs for cloud-based web applications, with the ability to work full-stack when needed.
- Experience designing scalable, robust architectures aligned with business requirements and long-term maintainability.
- Track record of independently scoping and driving initiative-level work spanning multiple teams and shaping a product area or division.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for producing technical designs and aligning engineers on implementation strategies.
- Ability to mentor and develop engineers while raising standards for testing, performance, and maintainability.
- Interest in learning life sciences; biotech knowledge is appreciated but not required, while audit, compliance, or GxP-regulated software experience is a plus.
- React, Python, and PostgreSQL experience is appreciated but not required if the candidate can learn them quickly.
