Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate Coupang Pay’s core payment services and platforms.
- Lead improvements to the scalability, reliability, security, and performance of payment systems, including Coupay.
- Solve technical challenges in large-scale traffic environments and advance system architecture.
- Design and operate payment back-office, settlement, and reconciliation systems while improving operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with accounting, treasury, and fintech development organizations to implement business requirements.
- Establish technical strategy for the payment domain and lead key technical decisions.
- Improve engineering quality through code reviews, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
- Support the technical growth of the team and organization while contributing to a stable payment experience.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of backend development experience.
- Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems based on Java or Kotlin and Spring Framework.
- Experience taking technical ownership of and proactively improving at least one complex service or domain.
- Ability to design systems considering performance, reliability, data consistency, and security.
- Experience structuring ambiguous problems, making technical decisions, and creating tangible business impact.
- Strong interest in and ownership of translating customer experience and business requirements into technical solutions.
- Preferred: experience designing architectures and leading migrations in JPA and MSA environments.
- Preferred: payment or fintech development and operations experience.
- Preferred: experience responding to incidents, monitoring systems, and improving SLAs in large-scale traffic environments.
- Preferred: experience processing large volumes of settlement or reconciliation data while ensuring consistency.
- Preferred: technical leadership in an agile software methodology environment.
- Preferred: experience influencing other engineers through technical decisions and system design.
