Responsibilities
- Lead projects spanning multiple engineering teams and define the technical roadmap for core data-serving platforms.
- Design scalable, highly available backend systems with clear boundaries, strong contracts, comprehensive testing, and web-scale performance.
- Resolve deep architectural challenges and critical system issues while balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform health.
- Contribute to group-wide technical strategy and create open, extensible platforms for other engineering teams.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools, automation, and team-wide AI best practices.
- Mentor engineers and coach teams on career growth, engineering fundamentals, and technical execution.
- Build and operate backend platforms supporting Coupang’s home, search, category, product detail, cart, checkout, and order experiences across global markets.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on backend development experience, excluding internships.
- At least 5 years of experience developing services and providing architecture leadership with Java, Kotlin, and Spring.
- Experience mentoring engineers and serving as a technical lead or engineering team leader.
- Experience defining technical vision and roadmaps for mission-critical projects while aligning stakeholders and lead engineers.
- Experience with microservices architecture and scaling systems to web-scale traffic.
- Experience investigating and resolving critical system issues and applying internal and industry best practices to system design.
- Experience collaborating with other engineering teams to build open and scalable platforms.
- Preferred experience includes at least 5 years of Java and Python software design and development.
- Preferred experience designing, building, and deploying scalable, highly available distributed multi-tier services and large-scale global systems.
- Preferred experience with AWS cloud computing, Kubernetes, Spark, Cassandra, Kafka, Airflow, Java, IntelliJ, and Spring.
- Practical experience using Copilot, Claude Code, Devin, and Cursor across implementation, testing, code review, and documentation.
- Experience establishing AI engineering best practices, leading adoption, and demonstrating measurable productivity improvements.
