Responsibilities
- Design and operate high-performance, low-latency data pipelines for large-scale simulation and real-world monitoring.
- Improve simulation signal quality and ensure simulation results predict real-world behavior.
- Implement metrics to measure simulation accuracy.
- Deploy and potentially contribute to ML models that identify interesting driving scenarios and improve testing efficiency.
- Maintain code health and developer experience across simulation and monitoring ecosystems.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists and Systems Engineers to translate vehicle telemetry into actionable insights about the Waymo Driver’s internal logic.
- Work cross-functionally with mobile app, cloud backend, Waymo Driver, operations, product, legal, partnerships, policy, and privacy teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience, or a quantitative PhD with 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proficiency in C++ or another object-oriented programming language.
- Familiarity with Python and SQL.
- Interest in autonomous driving, simulation, and evaluation.
- Preferred: 7+ years of industry experience or 3+ years of postdoctoral experience in a quantitative- or quality-focused engineering role.
- Preferred: experience serving as a technical lead while developing hypotheses, designing and running experiments, processing experimental data, synthesizing conclusions, and maintaining production-system stability.
- Preferred: B.Sc., M.Sc., or PhD in Computer Science.
- Preferred: experience with large-scale distributed systems at FAANG scale.
