Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives for observability solutions.
- Drive operational and system improvements and bring architectural clarity across the platform.
- Act as a subject matter expert and technical advisor while mentoring the wider engineering organization.
- Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with global domain experts.
- Write idiomatic modern Java for Elasticsearch.
Requirements
- Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
- Experience with one or more data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
- Strong core Java skills, including deep knowledge of Java concurrency primitives, data structures, and algorithms.
- Ability to design and optimize high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and teams, work autonomously, and drive decisions in a distributed environment.
- Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while retaining ownership of outcomes.
- Experience leveraging AI agents with sound engineering judgment and prompt-engineering practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and collaborative professionalism.
- Bonus: prior Elasticsearch development experience, open-source experience, database/search engine/OS/cloud service development, data storage experience, and experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
