Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction for payment orchestration, corridor and partner integrations, FX and quoting, payment lifecycle modeling, and settlement confirmation.
- Design a configuration-driven architecture for repeatable launches across corridors including EUR, MXN, COP, and AED.
- Build regulated safeguarding and transaction-monitoring controls with audit trails suitable for regulators and auditors.
- Define standards for idempotency, exactly-once effects, consistency under partner failure, safe retries, and backward-compatible API evolution.
- Own partner resilience through degraded modes, failover, routing, cut-off handling, and reconciliation.
- Set the reliability and observability bar for payment flows and lead incident response for stuck payments or partner outages.
- Lead architecture reviews for corridors, partner integrations, and high-risk changes.
- Mentor senior engineers and contribute to hiring standards.
- Partner with product, compliance, risk, and banking partnerships to communicate technical trade-offs.
Requirements
- Significant senior or staff-level backend engineering experience owning complex production systems.
- Production experience building or operating payment systems involving orchestration, partner integrations, or payment lifecycle systems.
- Experience integrating external banking, payment, or FX partners and handling production drift, credential changes, undocumented behavior, and outages.
- Strong judgment regarding failure handling, retries, idempotency, exactly-once effects, and critical data.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems and reliability, performance, and scalability trade-offs.
- Excellent technical communication and ability to lead cross-team initiatives without formal authority.
- Fluency in a modern TypeScript and Node.js backend stack and cloud infrastructure.
- Preferred experience with cross-border payments, corridor launches, FX, SWIFT, SEPA, or local clearing schemes.
- Preferred experience with safeguarding, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, or regulated controls in EMI/PI, PSD2, or MiCAR-style environments.
- Preferred experience with multi-partner orchestration, durable workflow engines, stablecoin or digital-asset settlement rails, and observability for high-stakes financial flows.
