Responsibilities
- Own system design and technical architecture for distributed AppleCare sales, service, and support platforms.
- Translate business requirements and ambiguous problems into concrete technical solutions and engineering specifications.
- Define and document API contracts, data flows, interface definitions, and inter-system interactions.
- Architect systems for high availability, fault tolerance, horizontal scalability, privacy, and performance.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders and engineering teams from systems impact analysis through production delivery.
- Develop domain expertise and use performance monitoring and observability data to identify optimization opportunities.
- Coordinate multiple global efforts and work with vendors, contractors, and distributed teams.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience focused on system design, technical architecture, or solution architecture for large-scale customer-facing production systems.
- Experience designing and documenting engineering specifications for APIs, data flows, and system interfaces.
- Experience architecting distributed systems for high availability, fault tolerance, horizontal scalability, and variable traffic loads.
- Ability to translate business requirements into system designs and technical solutions in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with modern backend stacks and data stores, including Java, Python, J2EE, Oracle, NoSQL, or MongoDB.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or another technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: 12+ years of relevant software engineering experience and 4+ years in hands-on development or technical architecture.
- Preferred: experience with complex business domains, observability and performance optimization, vendors and contractors, global cross-functional teams, and managing multiple efforts.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, written and verbal communication, organizational, leadership, and influencing skills.
