Responsibilities
- Design and build a backend system supporting U.S. air travel and air traffic control operations.
- Ingest and fuse disparate, noisy, and potentially conflicting data streams from radar, flight plans, weather systems, operator inputs, and other sources.
- Resolve incoming data into a single authoritative view of the operational environment.
- Project system state forward in time to enable optimization across competing conditions and constraints.
- Model uncertainty, data provenance, and confidence while ensuring systems degrade gracefully when inputs are incomplete or incorrect.
- Build software that is precise, resilient, reliable, scalable, and maintainable by future engineers.
Requirements
- Experience building production-grade backend or distributed systems with strong maintainability, scalability, and performance characteristics.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, with the ability to quickly learn Rust and Python.
- Experience with data integration, data storage, data processing, and data modeling systems.
- Experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures.
- Ability to work in complex, multi-system environments with evolving data models.
- Strong collaboration skills in a mission-critical environment.
- Proficiency in leveraging modern LLM tools to accelerate development workflows and enhance code quality.
- Exposure to high-availability systems is a strong plus.
- Aviation, mapping, geospatial, or other physical-world data domain experience is a strong plus.
- Ability to obtain required authorizations for work involving export-controlled technology and restricted U.S. Government data, including applicable immigration-status and location requirements.
