Responsibilities
- Design and build distributed systems that execute Mixpanel customer queries.
- Contribute to technical designs and deliver complex projects from prototype through global rollout.
- Develop systems for elastic query compute, distributed file caching, columnar storage internals, and compaction.
- Own projects or significant components end to end, including design, implementation, production launch, and operations.
- Collaborate with Query Serving, Streaming, Data Foundation, Core Analysis, Product, and AI-powered experiences teams.
- Operate production systems and make reliability, performance, and cost tradeoffs at scale.
- Use written design documents, code reviews, dashboards, demos, and AI-assisted development tools to drive execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating data infrastructure or backend systems.
- Solid foundation in distributed systems or data infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ownership of projects or significant components from design through production operation.
- Experience with technical communication, including design documents, code reviews, and asynchronous collaboration.
- Sound judgment regarding technical tradeoffs based on operating production systems.
- Experience or knowledge with Go, C/C++, Python, SQL, distributed systems, storage and query engines, caching, performance engineering, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and reliability practices.
- Ability to work with technologies and concepts including sharding, partitioning, replication, distributed scheduling, work fanout/merge, consistent hashing, columnar formats, indexing, compression, profiling, concurrency, memory management, benchmarking, observability, SLOs, and incident management.
- Interest in using LLM tooling to accelerate development, triage, and operations.
- Strong ownership, accountability, technical depth, and written communication.
