Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, test, and troubleshoot platform communications firmware for embedded IoT wireless systems.
  • Develop new IoT features for next-generation power tools in collaboration with marketing, project leadership, and product owners.
  • Mentor firmware engineers in C/C++ development, task management, root cause analysis, unit testing, and RTOS practices.
  • Create firmware test strategies and drive test automation to achieve appropriate requirements coverage.
  • Use network, power, spectrum, and protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition systems for development and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with component suppliers and manufacturers on component selection and future product requirements.
  • Identify engineering trends and help establish Milwaukee Tool’s technical direction.
  • Create and manage project roadmaps and resource plans while driving schedules, accountability, and project metrics.
  • Communicate risks, opportunities, and technical information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Travel domestically and internationally approximately 10% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a design-related role.
  • Strong knowledge of wireless communications protocols including Bluetooth Low Energy, Cellular, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, or LoRa.
  • Understanding of wireless communications, embedded systems, PCBA manufacturing, analog and digital system tradeoffs, signal integrity, and noise analysis.
  • Experience with C++ RTOS programming for microcontroller implementations.
  • Strong problem-solving, independent judgment, organizational, communication, and process-oriented skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Preferred experience designing Bluetooth Low Energy products.
  • Preferred expertise in C and C++ programming for low-power communications microcontrollers.
  • Preferred background in embedded development using FreeRTOS.
  • Preferred knowledge of the CMake build system.
  • Preferred experience developing a common firmware platform for multiple products.
