Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction for firmware architectures, applications, and libraries.
  • Lead a small to medium-sized team designing, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting embedded electronics.
  • Translate system design requirements into firmware requirements and refine engineering requirements based on marketing and user needs.
  • Lead the design and implementation of embedded software systems and review firmware architecture, designs, and source code.
  • Establish and execute test procedures for software applications and subsystems.
  • Analyze and improve system-resource efficiency, stability, and scalability.
  • Lead technology investigations, requirements definition, architecture definition, and reusability strategies.
  • Shape product technology roadmaps by evaluating competitive offerings, product strategies, business conditions, and emerging technologies.
  • Communicate and escalate business risks and opportunities to senior leadership.
  • Drive project schedules, accountability, cost targets, and performance metrics.
  • Mentor, guide, and coach junior engineers while modeling the company’s culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience with embedded C/C++.
  • 3+ years of leadership, teaching, or mentoring experience.
  • Knowledge and practical experience across all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience developing bare-metal firmware designs.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer reviews.
  • Ability to read schematics and component data sheets and understand digital circuits and firmware-electronics interaction.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, and data acquisition systems.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and design tradeoffs.
  • Strong problem-solving, independent judgment, organizational, process, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel 10% domestically and internationally.
  • Preferred: master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science field.
  • Preferred: leadership or project management experience, experience with automated testing and CI/CD, cross-functional collaboration, supply chain considerations, battery/drive/motor systems, MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, auto code generation, microcontroller RTOS, and three-phase motor control applications.
