Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain GitLab CI pipelines for compiling, packaging, and validating a large-scale Java application.
- Migrate legacy Jenkins jobs to reusable, modular GitLab CI pipelines using shared templates and source libraries.
- Build pipeline-triggered developer utilities for tagging, merge validation, code search, build comparison, version reporting, and code metrics.
- Develop dashboards showing build health, queue times, and deployment status.
- Manage shared build infrastructure including Docker images, AWS runners, JFrog Artifactory integration, credentials, deployment orchestration, and runner configuration.
- Automate branch and tag management, version management, configuration-only builds, and externalized configuration.
- Evaluate and implement Gradle as a replacement for Ant and Maven and prepare for a future GitLab-to-GitHub migration.
Requirements
- Strong engineering fundamentals and experience delivering and supporting production build and release systems at scale.
- Hands-on experience developing CI/CD pipelines, pipeline definitions, multi-stage workflows, shared runners, and pipeline-as-code patterns.
- Proficiency in Bash and experience writing scripts that interact with Git, REST APIs, and multi-step build processes.
- Solid Git workflow experience, including branching strategies, tagging, multi-stream release management, and merge validation.
- Unix/Linux command-line fluency and experience creating Docker container images for CI environments.
- Experience with Gradle and migrating large Java projects from Ant or Maven is desired.
- Advanced GitLab CI experience with parent-child pipelines, shared templates, dynamic variables, custom runners, and container registries is desired.
- Experience with JFrog Artifactory or similar artifact repositories, Python, GitHub Actions, AWS, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Splunk, Dynatrace, and Snyk is desired.
- Strong ownership, collaboration, and communication skills, including comfort working across teams and navigating ambiguity.
- Must be eligible to work lawfully in the United States immediately; State Farm will not sponsor U.S. work authorization.
