Base Salary

$105k - $149k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, test, demonstrate, and maintain embedded software applications for locomotive control systems.
  • Develop software in C and C++ for embedded systems across RTOS and bare-metal platforms.
  • Implement software from requirements analysis through production and commercial deployment.
  • Maintain and enhance software in existing embedded products and systems.
  • Collaborate with PMs, systems engineers, architects, test teams, business units, engineering teams, customers, and partners.
  • Design, implement, and test software to meet quality, functional, performance, and reliability requirements.
  • Participate in design and code reviews and develop software requirements, design, and architecture documentation.
  • Drive performance, reliability, safety, and fail-safe product enhancements.
  • Mentor more junior software engineers as needed.
  • Travel approximately 10% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience developing embedded software in RTOS and bare-metal environments.
  • Experience writing multiprocess and multithreaded programs using C or C++.
  • Strong understanding of software design methods, architectural approaches, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
  • Experience with ColdFire, ARM, and/or PowerPC microprocessors in a C/C++ environment.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, UDP, RS232/RS422, HDLC, SPI, I2C, and CAN communication protocols.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS, including Green Hills INTEGRITY.
  • Experience with SVN or Git configuration management tools.
  • Experience with software analysis tools such as Klocwork, Understand, and PC-Lint.
  • Experience with software unit testing tools such as VectorCAST.
  • Experience designing high-reliability, safety-focused, redundant, fail-safe products.
  • Experience with IEC 61508, DO-178B, Cenelec-50128, or similar industry standards.
  • Experience in Agile software development environments, including Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams and provide technical mentoring.
