Base Salary
$332k - $421k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop sensor-fusion foundation models for the Waymo Driver that provide temporal-spatial understanding of the surrounding environment and can run on the vehicle.
- Solve large-scale, multi-stage training problems using millions of miles of driving data under limited labeling budgets.
- Develop solutions for frequent model updates and reduce time-to-impact from observing an issue to addressing it.
- Optimize end-to-end latency from model training and updates through model deployment.
- Drive collaboration across Perception teams and between Perception and AI Foundation teams.
- Partner with Planning and Simulation teams and seek collaboration with Alphabet research teams.
- Report to the Director of Engineering in the Perception organization.
Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of experience in machine learning model development.
- 4+ years of experience developing and integrating large-scale vision, video, or multimodal foundation models into end-to-end models.
- 6+ years of experience with ML-driven production systems involving large-scale data, training, evaluation, and deployment.
- 6+ years of experience in technical leadership roles leading technical teams and setting technical direction in large ML engineering organizations.
- 3+ years of experience with computer vision models, LLMs, or vision-language models.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, and modern deep learning toolkits such as PyTorch or JAX.
- Experience in multimodal LLM pretraining and fine-tuning and related infrastructure is preferred.
- Experience with model distillation techniques and compute optimization is preferred.
- Familiarity with end-to-end models and their development challenges is preferred.
- Demonstrated technical experience in model quality development and engineering excellence is preferred.
