Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor Azure and on-premises data platforms for availability, performance, and reliability.
- Run and support data processing workflows, including incident handling, failed-job troubleshooting, and coordinating fixes with development teams.
- Implement and improve monitoring, alerting, logging, and SLA/SLO observability for data platforms and pipelines.
- Automate recurring operational tasks, reduce manual intervention and risk, and improve deployment, rollback, and change-management practices.
- Collaborate with data engineers and product teams to operationalize new data products within existing platform standards.
- Create operational documentation, runbooks, standards, and best practices, and share knowledge across the data organization.
- Build small tools and utilities for automation, monitoring improvements, and system integration.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in data platform operations, data engineering, or a related role.
- Strong understanding of batch processing, scheduling, dependencies, failures, and backfills.
- Practical experience with Azure data services and/or traditional ETL tools.
- Working knowledge of SQL and modern version-control workflows, including branches, pull requests, and code reviews.
- Experience or interest in modern data technologies including AWS, Snowflake, dbt or SQLMesh, Git or GitHub, Kubernetes, Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and platform automation.
- Solid scripting or programming skills for automation and tooling, ideally with SQL or Procedural SQL, Python, and Bash.
- Ability to troubleshoot operational issues, build automation utilities, and improve platform stability and reliability.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
